Question:-What is stammering? How can parents improve their stammering child at home?
Meaning of stammering:- Stammering is called "HAKLANA" in Hindi. Stammering is what affects our ability to speak. When the child speak, this thing seems normal to the parents. Parents think that our child is speaking. But when does the problem arise, when the child does the same thing even after growing up, like the child keeps repeating a sound again and again, or the child stretches a sound for a long time, or shows difficulty in speaking a particular word.
Now we will know what problems stammering causes to the child:-
1). Prolongation:- Our first problem is "prolongation" which is what the child does by lengthening a word or a particular sound.
2). Repeatition:- "Repeatition" In this condition the child keeps repeating one word continuously.
3). Blocks:- In this condition the child seems to be completely stuck in saying a particular word. He knew what to say, but the voice could not come out of his throat.
4). Hesitation:- In this condition, as the child progresses, he starts hesitating to talk to other people.
What can parents do to their child at home to reduce this problem:-
When parents come to know that their child has the problem of stammering. What parents should do is that they should tell their child to sit in front of the mirror and say 10 or 15 sentences about himself. One thing that parents should keep in mind is that when their child is sitting in front of the mirror and talking, he should not move his hands or his feet too much. This will increase the child's confidence level.Parents can also give motor exercise to their child at home. The moment of using the tongue is like turning the tongue up-down, turning it left-right, touching the tongue with the teeth, speaking to the child with the tongue to give pressure on his cheeks.
Through this, parents can bring a lot of improvement in their child at home also.
